The Bandag Tire Retreading Process
Some Rhinelander tire recappers haven't updated their processes and procedures in years. But at Bandag, we didn't become an industry leader by being like other companies. We've been designing and manufacturing standout retreads for more than four decades. Bandag retread manufacturing plants are ISO 9001:2000 certified and our dealers use BASys Manufacturing technology to monitor tire casings and increase retreading effectiveness. Here's how our modern retreading process works. A trained Bandag technician performs a visual inspection on the tire to be retreaded. They inspect it inside and out, marking any visible damage. The tire then undergoes an electrical inspection that identifies damage that can't be seen with the naked eye. The tire casing goes through a separate review, after which the casing is inflated and the surface is prepped for new tread. Repairs are made to the tire casing so that it's once again ready for work. A bonding layer and new tread are carefully applied to the casing surface. The tire is almost ready. It's covered in special elastic and prepped for curing. The new tread is permanently affixed to the tire after curing. The final retreaded tire is inspected and tested to ensure it meets our quality standards.
Experience the Bandag Retread Difference in Rhinelander
When it comes to big names in retreads, Bandag beats them all. You won't find a better product to support your fleet. Many fleets come to Bandag for advice, service, and tires. Think of Bandag retreads as a gift that keeps on giving. Quality commercial tires can be retreaded multiple times. Bandag's most cost-minded fleet customer, one of the biggest fleets in the world, retreads tires more than two times on average. Add an attentive tire management program with retreading and you can boost your investment by stretching the useful life of your fleet tires.
You can feel good about equipping your fleet with retread tires. Retreading can lower your fleet's environmental impact. While a brand new tire requires 22 gallons of oil to produce, a Bandag retread only uses seven gallons. Additionally, Bandag's FuelTech fuel-efficient retreads lead the industry in terms of low rolling resistance (i.e., fuel economy) among retread and new tires. All of that can be a little hard to visualize or relate to, so consider this: one 18-wheel semi-truck riding on retreaded tires instead of new ones would save enough energy to power hundreds and hundreds of homes. One of those homes could be yours.
