Bandag Retread Process: What Are Retread Tires?
Not all De Pere tire recappers follow the same processes and procedures. But at Bandag, we didn't snag almost double the market share of our nearest competitors by being like other companies. We've been designing and manufacturing standout retreads for more than four decades. Bandag retread manufacturing plants are ISO 9001:2000 certified and our dealers employ BASys Manufacturing technology [content-text-2-5] our dealers utilize BASys Manufacturing technology to track casings in real time and improve retreading efficiency. Here's how our modern retreading process works. A Bandag specialist begins with a hands-on inspection. They examine the tire inside and out and make note of damage along the way. The next inspection is an electrical one and uses technology that can "see through the tire" into the crown and sidewalls—where the human eye can't see. The tire casing goes through a separate review, after which the casing is inflated and the surface is prepped for new tread. The casing is repaired so that it's once again useful. A bonding layer and new tread are expertly applied. The near-ready tire is covered in a special elastic and prepared for curing. The curing step permanently adheres the tread to the tire. The final retreaded tire is inspected and tested to ensure it meets our quality standards.

Bandag retreads give back in more ways than one. Quality commercial tires can be retreaded one, two, or even three times depending on the situation. Bandag's most cost-efficient tire buyer, one of the biggest fleets in the world, retreads casings over and over – even at the steer position. It's an investment you can feel good about in more ways than one. Retreading is an environmentally responsible tire choice. While a brand new tire requires 22 gallons of oil to produce, a Bandag retread only uses seven gallons. Additionally, Bandag's FuelTech retreads are some of the lowest rolling resistance tires on the market, for both new and retread tires. We get that all of that information can be tough to put into context, so consider this example: one 18-wheel semi-truck riding on retreaded tires instead of new ones would save enough energy to power hundreds and hundreds of homes. One of those homes could be yours.
From the field to the highway, construction site to slippery slope, Bandag recap tires go where you go. Find a Bandag tire dealer in De Pere, WI for commercial retread tires near you. We roam where you roam.
