What Are Retread Tires? Bandag's Retread Process
Not all Winchester tire retreaders follow the same procedures and process. But at Bandag, we didn't snag almost double the market share of our nearest competitors by being like other companies. We've been designing and manufacturing standout retreads for more than four decades. Bandag retread manufacturing plants are ISO 9001:2000 certified and our dealers employ BASys Manufacturing technology [content-text-2-5] our dealers utilize BASys Manufacturing technology to monitor tire casings and improve retreading efficiency. Here's how our modern retreading process works. A trained Bandag technician performs a visual inspection on the tire to be retreaded. They inspect it inside and out, marking any visible damage. The next inspection is an electrical one and uses technology that can "see through the tire" into the crown and sidewalls—where the human eye can't see. Shearography then determines the conditions within the tire casing. The casing is inflated and readied for fresh tread. Damaged casing parts are expertly removed and repaired, and the casing is once again useful. A bonding layer and new tread are expertly applied. The tire is nearly done. It's encased in an elastic envelope and ready for curing. The new tread is permanently affixed to the tire after curing. The final retreaded tire is inspected and tested to ensure it meets our quality standards.

Bandag: There's no better product you'd want to be installed on your fleet, and there's no bigger name in retreads. That's why more fleets turn to Bandag for tires, advice, and service. Think of Bandag retreads as a gift that keeps on giving. Quality commercial truck tires can be retreaded more than once. Bandag's most cost-minded fleet customer, one of the largest fleets in the world, retreads tires more than two times on average. Add an attentive tire management program with retreading and you can boost your investment by lengthening the useful life of your fleet tires.
It's an investment you can feel good about in more ways than one. Retreading helps you save green by going green. While a brand new tire requires 22 gallons of oil to produce, a Bandag retread only uses seven gallons. Also, Bandag's FuelTech retreads are some of the lowest rolling resistance tires on the market, for both new and retread tires. We get that all of that information can be tough to put into context, so consider this example: put retreaded tires instead of new tires on a single 18-wheeler and you'd save enough energy to power thousands of homes across America. Your home could be one of them.
From urban alley to cornfield, construction site to slippery slope, Bandag recap tires go where you go. Contact a Bandag dealer near you in Winchester for retread tires in Virginia. We'll be there for you, no matter your fleet size.
