The Bandag Tire Retreading Process
Not all Provo tire retreaders follow the same procedures and process. At Bandag, it's safe to say we're not like other companies. We're an industry leader. We've been making world-class retreads for over 60 years. Bandag retread manufacturing plants are ISO 9001:2000 certified and our dealers employ BASys Manufacturing technology [content-text-2-5] our dealers utilize BASys Manufacturing technology to oversee casings in real time and enhance retreading efficiency. Here's what the full retread process looks like. A Bandag specialist begins with a hands-on inspection. They examine the tire inside and out and make note of damage along the way. We don't stop at a visual inspection. The tire goes through an electrical inspection that can see "through the tire," into the sidewall and crown areas. Lasers measure any surface anomalies within the tire casing. The casing is repaired so that it's once again useful. An uncured bonding layer is extruded onto the prepared casing surface. New tread is applied. The tire is almost ready. It's covered in special elastic and prepped for curing. The curing step permanently adheres the tread to the tire. The final retreaded tire is inspected and tested to ensure it meets our quality standards.
