What's the Bandag Retread Process?
Not all Smock tire recappers follow the same processes and procedures. But at Bandag, we didn't become an industry leader by being like other companies. We've been making world-class retreads for over 60 years. Bandag retread manufacturing plants are ISO 9001:2000 certified and our dealers use BASys Manufacturing technology to track casings in real time and enhance retreading efficiency. Here's how the rest of the retread process goes. A trained Bandag technician performs a visual inspection on the tire to be retreaded. They inspect it inside and out, marking any visible damage. The next inspection is an electrical one and uses technology that can "see through the tire" into the crown and sidewalls—where the human eye can't see. The tire casing goes through a separate review, after which the casing is inflated and the surface is prepped for new tread. Repairs are made to the tire casing so that it's once again ready for work. A bonding layer and new tread are carefully applied to the casing surface. The near-ready tire is covered in a special elastic and prepared for curing. After curing, the new tread has permanently adhered to the tire. Last but not least, the tire goes through another round of inspections to ensure it meets our high standards.
The Bandag Difference in Smock Is a Big Difference
There's no bigger name in retreads, and there's no better product you'd want to be installed on your fleet than Bandag. It's no surprise that many fleets choose Bandag for tires, advice, and service. Some say Bandag retread tires are like an investment that keeps paying dividends. Quality commercial tires can be retreaded one, two, or even three times depending on the situation. Bandag's most cost-conscious fleet customer, one of the largest fleets in the world, retreads tires more than two times on average. When retreading is combined with a diligent tire management program and you can boost your investment by stretching the useful life of your fleet tires.
Retreading is a business decision you can stand behind, and for a couple of reasons. Retreading helps you save green by going green. The numbers say it all. A Bandag retread only requires seven gallons of oil to produce. But a brand new tire? It takes over three times as much: 22 gallons. Plus, Bandag's line of FuelTech retreads are among the most fuel-efficient of all tires, new and retread. We understand that those facts can be difficult to visualize, so here's a real-world example: a single 18-wheel truck that utilized retreaded tires instead of new tires would save enough energy to power thousands of homes. Your home could be one of them.
From field to highway, quarry to construction site, Bandag recap tires go where you go. Contact a Bandag dealer near you in Smock for retread tires in Pennsylvania. We'll be there for you, no matter your fleet size.
