The Bandag Tire Retreading Process
Some Hazleton tire recappers haven't updated their processes and procedures in years. But at Bandag, we didn't become an industry leader by being like other companies. We've been designing and manufacturing standout retreads for more than four decades. Bandag retread manufacturing plants are ISO 9001:2000 certified and our dealers use BASys Manufacturing technology to monitor tire casings and increase retreading effectiveness. Here's how our modern retreading process works. A Bandag specialist begins with a hands-on inspection. They examine the tire inside and out and make note of damage along the way. The tire then undergoes an electrical inspection that identifies damage that can't be seen with the naked eye. The tire casing goes through a separate review, after which the casing is inflated and the surface is prepped for new tread. Damaged casing parts are expertly removed and repaired, and the casing is once again useful. A bonding layer and new tread are carefully applied to the casing surface. The near-ready tire is covered in a special elastic and prepared for curing. After curing, the new tread has permanently adhered to the tire. Finally, the tire goes through another inspection to make sure our safety standards are met.
The Bandag Difference in Hazleton Is a Big Difference
Bandag: There's no better product you'd want to be installed on your fleet, and there's no bigger name in retreads. That's why more fleets turn to Bandag for service, advice, and tires. Think of Bandag retreads as a gift that keeps on giving. Quality commercial tires can be retreaded one, two, or even three times depending on the situation. Bandag's most cost-conscious fleet customer, one of the biggest fleets in the world, retreads casings over and over – even at the steer position. When retreading is combined with a diligent tire management program and you can enhance your investment by stretching the effective life of your fleet tires.
It's an investment you can feel good about in more ways than one. Retreading can lower your fleet's environmental impact. A Bandag retread takes just seven gallons of oil to produce, while a brand new tire takes 22 gallons. Additionally, Bandag's FuelTech retreads are some of the lowest rolling resistance tires on the market, for both new and retread tires. We understand that those facts can be difficult to visualize, so here's a real-world example: a single 18-wheel truck that utilized retreaded tires instead of new tires would save enough energy to power thousands of homes. Your home could be one of them.
From highway to field, slippery slope to construction site, Bandag recap tires go where you go. Contact a Bandag dealer near you in Hazleton for retread tires in Pennsylvania. Our network of locations is ready to serve your fleet.
