Modern Retreading, By Bandag
Not all Erie tire recappers follow the same processes and procedures. But at Bandag, we didn't snag almost double the market share of our nearest competitors by being like other companies. We've been designing and manufacturing standout retreads for more than four decades. Bandag retread manufacturing plants are ISO 9001:2000 certified and our dealers use BASys Manufacturing technology to oversee casings in real time and improve retreading efficiency. Here's what the full retread process looks like. A qualified Bandag specialist starts by performing a hands-on examination of the tire that will be retreaded and noting any damage. The next inspection is an electrical one and uses technology that can "see through the tire" into the crown and sidewalls—where the human eye can't see. The tire casing goes through a separate review, after which the casing is inflated and the surface is prepped for new tread. Damaged casing parts are expertly removed and repaired, and the casing is once again useful. A bonding layer and new tread are expertly applied. The tire is nearly done. It's encased in an elastic envelope and ready for curing. After curing, the new tread has permanently adhered to the tire. The final retreaded tire is inspected and tested to ensure it meets our quality standards.

When it comes to big names in retreads, Bandag beats them all. You won't find a better product to support your fleet. Many fleets come to Bandag for tires, service, and advice. Bandag retreads give back in more ways than one. Quality commercial truck tires can be retreaded more than once. Bandag's most cost-conscious fleet client, one of the largest fleets in the world, retreads casings over and over – even at the steer position. Layer a responsive tire management program on top of retreading and you can boost your investment by extending the useful life of your fleet tires.
It's an investment you can feel good about in more ways than one. Retreading helps you save green by going green. A Bandag retread takes just seven gallons of oil to produce, while a brand new tire takes 22 gallons. Also, Bandag's FuelTech retreads are some of the lowest rolling resistance tires on the market, for both new and retread tires. All of that can be a little hard to visualize or relate to, so consider this: put retreaded tires instead of new tires on a single 18-wheeler and you'd save enough energy to power thousands of homes across America. Your home could be one of them.
From field to highway, slippery slope to construction site, Bandag retread tires go with you. Find a Pennsylvania Bandag dealer near you for retread tires in Erie. We'll be there for you, no matter your fleet size.
