What Are Retread Tires? Bandag's Retread Process
Some Sidney tire recappers haven't updated their processes and procedures in years. But at Bandag, we didn't become an industry leader by being like other companies. World-class retreads are in our blood. They have been for decades. Bandag retread manufacturing plants are ISO 9001:2000 certified and our dealers employ BASys Manufacturing technology [content-text-2-5] our dealers utilize BASys Manufacturing technology to track casings in real time and increase retreading effectiveness. Here's how our modern retreading process works. A trained Bandag technician performs a visual inspection on the tire to be retreaded. They inspect it inside and out, marking any visible damage. The tire then undergoes an electrical inspection that identifies damage that can't be seen with the naked eye. Shearography then determines the conditions within the tire casing. The casing is inflated and readied for fresh tread. Repairs are made to the tire casing so that it's once again ready for work. A bonding layer and new tread are expertly applied. The near-ready tire is covered in a special elastic and prepared for curing. The new tread is permanently affixed to the tire after curing. The final retreaded tire is inspected and tested to ensure it meets our quality standards.
