What Are Retread Tires? Bandag's Retread Process
Not all Perrysburg tire recappers follow the same processes and procedures. But at Bandag, we didn't snag almost double the market share of our nearest competitors by being like other companies. We've been designing and manufacturing standout retreads for more than four decades. Bandag retread manufacturing plants are ISO 9001:2000 certified and our dealers employ BASys Manufacturing technology [content-text-2-5] our dealers utilize BASys Manufacturing technology to track casings in real time and enhance retreading efficiency. Here's what the full retread process looks like. A Bandag specialist begins with a hands-on inspection. They examine the tire inside and out and make note of damage along the way. The tire then undergoes an electrical inspection that identifies damage that can't be seen with the naked eye. Lasers measure any surface anomalies within the tire casing. The casing is repaired so that it's once again useful. A bonding layer and new tread are expertly applied. The tire is almost ready. It's covered in special elastic and prepped for curing. The new tread is permanently affixed to the tire after curing. The final retreaded tire is inspected and tested to ensure it meets our quality standards.

Plus, Bandag's FuelTech retreads are some of the lowest rolling resistance tires on the market, for both new and retread tires. All of that can be a little hard to visualize or relate to, so consider this: a single 18-wheel truck that utilized retreaded tires instead of new tires would save enough energy to power thousands of homes. One of those homes could be yours.
