Modern Retreading, By Bandag
Not all Mingo Junction tire retreaders follow the same procedures and process. But at Bandag, we didn't snag almost double the market share of our nearest competitors by being like other companies. World-class retreads are in our blood. They have been for decades. Bandag retread manufacturing plants are ISO 9001:2000 certified and our dealers use BASys Manufacturing technology to track casings in real time and improve retreading efficiency. Here's how the rest of the retread process goes. A Bandag specialist begins with a hands-on inspection. They examine the tire inside and out and make note of damage along the way. The next inspection is an electrical one and uses technology that can "see through the tire" into the crown and sidewalls—where the human eye can't see. Lasers measure any surface anomalies within the tire casing. Damaged casing parts are expertly removed and repaired, and the casing is once again useful. An uncured bonding layer is extruded onto the prepared casing surface. New tread is applied. The tire is almost ready. It's covered in special elastic and prepped for curing. The new tread is permanently affixed to the tire after curing. The final retreaded tire is inspected and tested to ensure it meets our quality standards.

Bandag: There's no better product you'd want to be installed on your fleet, and there's no bigger name in retreads. Many fleets come to Bandag for advice, service, and tires. Think of Bandag retreads as a gift that keeps on giving. Quality commercial tires can be retreaded one, two, or even three times depending on the situation. Bandag's most cost-minded fleet client, one of the largest fleets in the world, retreads casings over and over – even at the steer position. When retreading is combined with a diligent tire management program and you can boost your investment by stretching the effective life of your fleet tires.
You can feel good about equipping your fleet with retread tires. Retreading helps you save green by going green. While a brand new tire requires 22 gallons of oil to produce, a Bandag retread only uses seven gallons. Plus, Bandag's line of FuelTech retreads are among the most fuel-efficient of all tires, new and retread. We get that all of that information can be tough to put into context, so consider this example: one 18-wheel semi-truck riding on retreaded tires instead of new ones would save enough energy to power hundreds and hundreds of homes. What if your home was one of them?
