What's the Bandag Retread Process?
Not all Akron tire recappers follow the same processes and procedures. But at Bandag, we didn't become an industry leader by being like other companies. We've been making world-class retreads for over 60 years. Bandag retread manufacturing plants are ISO 9001:2000 certified and our dealers employ BASys Manufacturing technology [content-text-2-5] our dealers utilize BASys Manufacturing technology to monitor tire casings and improve retreading efficiency. Here's how the rest of the retread process goes. A qualified Bandag specialist starts by performing a hands-on examination of the tire that will be retreaded and noting any damage. The tire then undergoes an electrical inspection that identifies damage that can't be seen with the naked eye. Shearography then determines the conditions within the tire casing. The casing is inflated and readied for fresh tread. Repairs are made to the tire casing so that it's once again ready for work. A bonding layer and new tread are carefully applied to the casing surface. The tire is almost ready. It's covered in special elastic and prepped for curing. The curing step permanently adheres the tread to the tire. Finally, the tire goes through another inspection to make sure our safety standards are met.
