What Are Retread Tires? Bandag's Retread Process
Some Fargo tire recappers haven't updated their processes and procedures in years. At Bandag, it's safe to say we're not like other companies. We're an industry leader. World-class retreads are in our blood. They have been for decades. Bandag retread manufacturing plants are ISO 9001:2000 certified and our dealers employ BASys Manufacturing technology [content-text-2-5] our dealers utilize BASys Manufacturing technology to monitor tire casings and enhance retreading efficiency. Here's how the rest of the retread process goes. A trained Bandag technician performs a visual inspection on the tire to be retreaded. They inspect it inside and out, marking any visible damage. We don't stop at a visual inspection. The tire goes through an electrical inspection that can see "through the tire," into the sidewall and crown areas. Lasers measure any surface anomalies within the tire casing. Repairs are made to the tire casing so that it's once again ready for work. An uncured bonding layer is extruded onto the prepared casing surface. New tread is applied. The tire is almost ready. It's covered in special elastic and prepped for curing. The curing step permanently adheres the tread to the tire. Last but not least, the tire goes through another round of inspections to ensure it meets our high standards.
Experience the Bandag Retread Difference in Fargo
There's no bigger name in retreads, and there's no better product you'd want to be installed on your fleet than Bandag. That's why more fleets turn to Bandag for tires, advice, and service. Bandag retreads give back in more ways than one. Quality commercial tires can be retreaded multiple times. Bandag's most cost-efficient fleet client, one of the largest modern fleets, retreads tires more than two times on average. Add an attentive tire management program with retreading and you can boost your investment by stretching the effective life of your fleet tires.
Retreading is a business decision you can stand behind, and for a couple of reasons. Retreading is an environmentally responsible tire choice. A Bandag retread takes just seven gallons of oil to produce, while a brand new tire takes 22 gallons. Additionally, Bandag's FuelTech fuel-efficient retreads lead the industry in terms of low rolling resistance (i.e., fuel economy) among retread and new tires. All of that can be a little hard to visualize or relate to, so consider this: one 18-wheel semi-truck riding on retreaded tires instead of new ones would save enough energy to power hundreds and hundreds of homes. Your home could be one of them.
