What Are Retread Tires? Bandag's Retread Process
Not all Billings tire recappers follow the same processes and procedures. At Bandag, it's safe to say we're not like other companies. We're an industry leader. World-class retreads are in our blood. They have been for decades. Bandag retread manufacturing plants are ISO 9001:2000 certified and our dealers use BASys Manufacturing technology to track casings in real time and increase retreading effectiveness. Here's what the full retread process looks like. A qualified Bandag specialist starts by performing a hands-on examination of the tire that will be retreaded and noting any damage. We don't stop at a visual inspection. The tire goes through an electrical inspection that can see "through the tire," into the sidewall and crown areas. The tire casing goes through a separate review, after which the casing is inflated and the surface is prepped for new tread. Repairs are made to the tire casing so that it's once again ready for work. A bonding layer and new tread are expertly applied. The tire is almost ready. It's covered in special elastic and prepped for curing. The new tread is permanently affixed to the tire after curing. Finally, the tire goes through another inspection to make sure our safety standards are met.
The Bandag Difference in Billings Is a Big Difference
There's no bigger name in retreads, and there's no better product you'd want to be installed on your fleet than Bandag. It's no surprise that many fleets choose Bandag for tires, service, and advice. Think of Bandag retreads as a gift that keeps on giving. Quality commercial truck tires can be retreaded more than once. Bandag's most cost-minded fleet client, one of the biggest fleets in the world, retreads casings over and over – even at the steer position. Layer a responsive tire management program on top of retreading and you can maximize your investment by extending the effective life of your fleet tires.
Retreading is a business decision you can stand behind, and for a couple of reasons. Retreading helps you save green by going green. A Bandag retread takes just seven gallons of oil to produce, while a brand new tire takes 22 gallons. What's more, Bandag's FuelTech retreads are some of the lowest rolling resistance tires on the market, for both new and retread tires. We understand that those facts can be difficult to visualize, so here's a real-world example: one 18-wheel semi-truck riding on retreaded tires instead of new ones would save enough energy to power hundreds and hundreds of homes. One of those homes could be yours.
