What Are Retread Tires? Bandag's Retread Process
Some Redford tire recappers haven't updated their processes and procedures in years. But at Bandag, we didn't become an industry leader by being like other companies. We've been making world-class retreads for over 60 years. Bandag retread manufacturing plants are ISO 9001:2000 certified and our dealers employ BASys Manufacturing technology [content-text-2-5] our dealers utilize BASys Manufacturing technology to track casings in real time and enhance retreading efficiency. Here's what the full retread process looks like. A qualified Bandag specialist starts by performing a hands-on examination of the tire that will be retreaded and noting any damage. We don't stop at a visual inspection. The tire goes through an electrical inspection that can see "through the tire," into the sidewall and crown areas. The tire casing goes through a separate review, after which the casing is inflated and the surface is prepped for new tread. Damaged casing parts are expertly removed and repaired, and the casing is once again useful. An uncured bonding layer is extruded onto the prepared casing surface. New tread is applied. The tire is nearly done. It's encased in an elastic envelope and ready for curing. After curing, the new tread has permanently adhered to the tire. Last but not least, the tire goes through another round of inspections to ensure it meets our high standards.

Bandag: There's no better product you'd want to be installed on your fleet, and there's no bigger name in retreads. It's no surprise that many fleets choose Bandag for tires, advice, and service. Think of Bandag retreads as a gift that keeps on giving. Quality commercial truck tires can be retreaded more than once. Bandag's most cost-conscious tire buyer, one of the largest modern fleets, retreads casings over and over – even at the steer position. Layer a responsive tire management program on top of retreading and you can enhance your investment by stretching the effective life of your fleet tires.
It's an investment you can feel good about in more ways than one. Retreading is an environmentally responsible tire choice. While a brand new tire requires 22 gallons of oil to produce, a Bandag retread only uses seven gallons. What's more, Bandag's FuelTech fuel-efficient retreads lead the industry in terms of low rolling resistance (i.e., fuel economy) among retread and new tires. All of that can be a little hard to visualize or relate to, so consider this: a single 18-wheel truck that utilized retreaded tires instead of new tires would save enough energy to power thousands of homes. What if your home was one of them?
From urban alley to cornfield, construction site to slippery slope, Bandag retreads stick with you. Contact a Bandag dealer near you in Redford for retread tires in Michigan. We'll be there for you, no matter your fleet size.
