The Bandag Tire Retreading Process
Not all South Bend tire recappers follow the same processes and procedures. But at Bandag, we didn't snag almost double the market share of our nearest competitors by being like other companies. We've been making world-class retreads for over 60 years. Bandag retread manufacturing plants are ISO 9001:2000 certified and our dealers use BASys Manufacturing technology to track casings in real time and improve retreading efficiency. Here's what the full retread process looks like. A trained Bandag technician performs a visual inspection on the tire to be retreaded. They inspect it inside and out, marking any visible damage. The tire then undergoes an electrical inspection that identifies damage that can't be seen with the naked eye. Shearography then determines the conditions within the tire casing. The casing is inflated and readied for fresh tread. Damaged casing parts are expertly removed and repaired, and the casing is once again useful. An uncured bonding layer is extruded onto the prepared casing surface. New tread is applied. The near-ready tire is covered in a special elastic and prepared for curing. The curing step permanently adheres the tread to the tire. Finally, the tire goes through another inspection to make sure our safety standards are met.
The Bandag Difference in South Bend Is a Big Difference
Bandag: There's no better product you'd want to be installed on your fleet, and there's no bigger name in retreads. Many fleets come to Bandag for tires, service, and advice. Some say Bandag retread tires are like an investment that keeps paying dividends. Quality commercial tires can be retreaded multiple times. Bandag's most cost-minded tire buyer, one of the largest fleets in the world, retreads tires more than two times on average. Add an attentive tire management program with retreading and you can boost your investment by stretching the effective life of your fleet tires.
It's an investment you can feel good about in more ways than one. Retreading helps you save green by going green. A Bandag retread takes just seven gallons of oil to produce, while a brand new tire takes 22 gallons. Additionally, Bandag's line of FuelTech retreads are among the most fuel-efficient of all tires, new and retread. All of that can be a little hard to visualize or relate to, so consider this: a single 18-wheel truck that utilized retreaded tires instead of new tires would save enough energy to power thousands of homes. Your home could be one of them.
From city street to suburban alley, construction site to slippery slope, Bandag recap tires go where you go. Find a Indiana Bandag dealer near you for retread tires in South Bend. We roam where you roam.
