What's the Bandag Retread Process?
Some Bradenton tire recappers haven't updated their processes and procedures in years. But at Bandag, we didn't snag almost double the market share of our nearest competitors by being like other companies. We've been designing and manufacturing standout retreads for more than four decades. Bandag retread manufacturing plants are ISO 9001:2000 certified and our dealers use BASys Manufacturing technology to track casings in real time and improve retreading efficiency. Here's what the full retread process looks like. A qualified Bandag specialist starts by performing a hands-on examination of the tire that will be retreaded and noting any damage. The tire then undergoes an electrical inspection that identifies damage that can't be seen with the naked eye. Shearography then determines the conditions within the tire casing. The casing is inflated and readied for fresh tread. Repairs are made to the tire casing so that it's once again ready for work. A bonding layer and new tread are expertly applied. The near-ready tire is covered in a special elastic and prepared for curing. The new tread is permanently affixed to the tire after curing. Finally, the tire goes through another inspection to make sure our safety standards are met.
The Bandag Difference in Bradenton Is a Big Difference
Bandag: There's no better product you'd want to be installed on your fleet, and there's no bigger name in retreads. Many fleets come to Bandag for advice, service, and tires. Think of Bandag retreads as a gift that keeps on giving. Quality commercial tires can be retreaded multiple times. Bandag's most cost-efficient tire buyer, one of the largest fleets in the world, retreads casings over and over – even at the steer position. When retreading is combined with a diligent tire management program and you can maximize your investment by stretching the service life of your fleet tires.
You can feel good about equipping your fleet with retread tires. Retreading helps you save green by going green. The numbers say it all. A Bandag retread only requires seven gallons of oil to produce. But a brand new tire? It takes over three times as much: 22 gallons. Plus, Bandag's line of FuelTech retreads are among the most fuel-efficient of all tires, new and retread. All of that can be a little hard to visualize or relate to, so consider this: a single 18-wheel truck that utilized retreaded tires instead of new tires would save enough energy to power thousands of homes. One of those homes could be yours.
