The Bandag Tire Retreading Process
Not all San Diego tire retreaders follow the same procedures and process. But at Bandag, we didn't snag almost double the market share of our nearest competitors by being like other companies. World-class retreads are in our blood. They have been for decades. Bandag retread manufacturing plants are ISO 9001:2000 certified and our dealers employ BASys Manufacturing technology [content-text-2-5] our dealers utilize BASys Manufacturing technology to monitor tire casings and enhance retreading efficiency. Here's how the rest of the retread process goes. A qualified Bandag specialist starts by performing a hands-on examination of the tire that will be retreaded and noting any damage. The next inspection is an electrical one and uses technology that can "see through the tire" into the crown and sidewalls—where the human eye can't see. The tire casing goes through a separate review, after which the casing is inflated and the surface is prepped for new tread. Damaged casing parts are expertly removed and repaired, and the casing is once again useful. A bonding layer and new tread are expertly applied. The near-ready tire is covered in a special elastic and prepared for curing. After curing, the new tread has permanently adhered to the tire. Finally, the tire goes through another inspection to make sure our safety standards are met.

When it comes to big names in retreads, Bandag beats them all. You won't find a better product to support your fleet. That's why more fleets turn to Bandag for tires, service, and advice. Bandag retreads give back in more ways than one. Quality commercial tires can be retreaded multiple times. You can feel good about equipping your fleet with retread tires. Retreading helps you save green by going green. While a brand new tire requires 22 gallons of oil to produce, a Bandag retread only uses seven gallons. Also, Bandag's FuelTech fuel-efficient retreads lead the industry in terms of low rolling resistance (i.e., fuel economy) among retread and new tires. We understand that those facts can be difficult to visualize, so here's a real-world example: one 18-wheel semi-truck riding on retreaded tires instead of new ones would save enough energy to power hundreds and hundreds of homes. One of those homes could be yours.
