What's the Bandag Retread Process?
Some Oxnard tire recappers haven't updated their processes and procedures in years. At Bandag, it's safe to say we're not like other companies. We're an industry leader. World-class retreads are in our blood. They have been for decades. Bandag retread manufacturing plants are ISO 9001:2000 certified and our dealers employ BASys Manufacturing technology [content-text-2-5] our dealers utilize BASys Manufacturing technology to oversee casings in real time and enhance retreading efficiency. Here's how the rest of the retread process goes. A trained Bandag technician performs a visual inspection on the tire to be retreaded. They inspect it inside and out, marking any visible damage. The tire then undergoes an electrical inspection that identifies damage that can't be seen with the naked eye. Lasers measure any surface anomalies within the tire casing. Damaged casing parts are expertly removed and repaired, and the casing is once again useful. An uncured bonding layer is extruded onto the prepared casing surface. New tread is applied. The near-ready tire is covered in a special elastic and prepared for curing. After curing, the new tread has permanently adhered to the tire. Last but not least, the tire goes through another round of inspections to ensure it meets our high standards.
