What Are Retread Tires? Bandag's Retread Process

Not all Hope tire recappers follow the same processes and procedures. But at Bandag, we didn't become an industry leader by being like other companies. We've been designing and manufacturing standout retreads for more than four decades. Bandag retread manufacturing plants are ISO 9001:2000 certified and our dealers use BASys Manufacturing technology to monitor tire casings and enhance retreading efficiency. Here's how the rest of the retread process goes. A trained Bandag technician performs a visual inspection on the tire to be retreaded. They inspect it inside and out, marking any visible damage. The next inspection is an electrical one and uses technology that can "see through the tire" into the crown and sidewalls—where the human eye can't see. Lasers measure any surface anomalies within the tire casing. Damaged casing parts are expertly removed and repaired, and the casing is once again useful. A bonding layer and new tread are carefully applied to the casing surface. The near-ready tire is covered in a special elastic and prepared for curing. The new tread is permanently affixed to the tire after curing. The final retreaded tire is inspected and tested to ensure it meets our quality standards.

The Bandag Difference in Hope Is a Big Difference

There's no bigger name in retreads, and there's no better product you'd want to be installed on your fleet than Bandag. It's no surprise that many fleets choose Bandag for advice, service, and tires. Some say Bandag retread tires are like an investment that keeps paying dividends. Quality commercial tires can be retreaded one, two, or even three times depending on the situation. Bandag's most cost-minded fleet customer, one of the largest fleets in the world, retreads tires more than two times on average. Layer a responsive tire management program on top of retreading and you can maximize your investment by lengthening the useful life of your fleet tires.

You can feel good about equipping your fleet with retread tires. Retreading helps you save green by going green. While a brand new tire requires 22 gallons of oil to produce, a Bandag retread only uses seven gallons. [2] Also, Bandag's line of FuelTech retreads are among the most fuel-efficient of all tires, new and retread. We get that all of that information can be tough to put into context, so consider this example: a single 18-wheel truck that utilized retreaded tires instead of new tires would save enough energy to power thousands of homes. [3] One of those homes could be yours.

From urban alley to cornfield, slippery slope to quarry, Bandag retreads stick with you. Find a Bandag tire dealer in Hope, BC for commercial retread tires near you. We'll be there for you, no matter your fleet size.
