What's the Bandag Retread Process?

Not all Campbell River tire retreaders follow the same procedures and process. But at Bandag, we didn't become an industry leader by being like other companies. World-class retreads are in our blood. They have been for decades. Bandag retread manufacturing plants are ISO 9001:2000 certified and our dealers use BASys Manufacturing technology to track casings in real time and improve retreading efficiency. Here's what the full retread process looks like. A Bandag specialist begins with a hands-on inspection. They examine the tire inside and out and make note of damage along the way. The next inspection is an electrical one and uses technology that can "see through the tire" into the crown and sidewalls—where the human eye can't see. Shearography then determines the conditions within the tire casing. The casing is inflated and readied for fresh tread. Damaged casing parts are expertly removed and repaired, and the casing is once again useful. A bonding layer and new tread are carefully applied to the casing surface. The tire is almost ready. It's covered in special elastic and prepped for curing. After curing, the new tread has permanently adhered to the tire. Finally, the tire goes through another inspection to make sure our safety standards are met.
