Bandag Retread Process: What Are Retread Tires?

Not all Burnaby tire recappers follow the same processes and procedures. But at Bandag, we didn't snag almost double the market share of our nearest competitors by being like other companies. We've been designing and manufacturing standout retreads for more than four decades. Bandag retread manufacturing plants are ISO 9001:2000 certified and our dealers use BASys Manufacturing technology to oversee casings in real time and improve retreading efficiency. Here's how our modern retreading process works. A trained Bandag technician performs a visual inspection on the tire to be retreaded. They inspect it inside and out, marking any visible damage. The next inspection is an electrical one and uses technology that can "see through the tire" into the crown and sidewalls—where the human eye can't see. Shearography then determines the conditions within the tire casing. The casing is inflated and readied for fresh tread. Repairs are made to the tire casing so that it's once again ready for work. An uncured bonding layer is extruded onto the prepared casing surface. New tread is applied. The tire is nearly done. It's encased in an elastic envelope and ready for curing. After curing, the new tread has permanently adhered to the tire. Finally, the tire goes through another inspection to make sure our safety standards are met.

Experience the Bandag Retread Difference in Burnaby

When it comes to big names in retreads, Bandag beats them all. You won't find a better product to support your fleet. It's no surprise that many fleets choose Bandag for tires, advice, and service. Think of Bandag retreads as a gift that keeps on giving. Quality commercial truck tires can be retreaded more than once. Bandag's most cost-conscious tire buyer, one of the biggest fleets in the world, retreads casings over and over – even at the steer position. Layer a responsive tire management program on top of retreading and you can enhance your investment by stretching the service life of your fleet tires.

You can feel good about equipping your fleet with retread tires. Retreading helps you save green by going green. A Bandag retread takes just seven gallons of oil to produce, while a brand new tire takes 22 gallons. [2] Also, Bandag's FuelTech fuel-efficient retreads lead the industry in terms of low rolling resistance (i.e., fuel economy) among retread and new tires. We get that all of that information can be tough to put into context, so consider this example: put retreaded tires instead of new tires on a single 18-wheeler and you'd save enough energy to power thousands of homes across America. [3] Your home could be one of them.

From field to highway, construction site to slippery slope, Bandag retreads stick with you. Find a Bandag tire dealer in Burnaby, BC for commercial retread tires near you. We roam where you roam.
