The Bandag Tire Retreading Process
Not all Huntsville tire retreaders follow the same procedures and process. At Bandag, it's safe to say we're not like other companies. We're an industry leader. World-class retreads are in our blood. They have been for decades. Bandag retread manufacturing plants are ISO 9001:2000 certified and our dealers use BASys Manufacturing technology to track casings in real time and improve retreading efficiency. Here's how our modern retreading process works. A trained Bandag technician performs a visual inspection on the tire to be retreaded. They inspect it inside and out, marking any visible damage. We don't stop at a visual inspection. The tire goes through an electrical inspection that can see "through the tire," into the sidewall and crown areas. Lasers measure any surface anomalies within the tire casing. Repairs are made to the tire casing so that it's once again ready for work. An uncured bonding layer is extruded onto the prepared casing surface. New tread is applied. The tire is nearly done. It's encased in an elastic envelope and ready for curing. The curing step permanently adheres the tread to the tire. Finally, the tire goes through another inspection to make sure our safety standards are met.

It's an investment you can feel good about in more ways than one. Retreading can lower your fleet's environmental impact. We understand that those facts can be difficult to visualize, so here's a real-world example: put retreaded tires instead of new tires on a single 18-wheeler and you'd save enough energy to power thousands of homes across America.
