How do Bandag Retreads work?
Not all Cottondale tire recappers follow the same processes and procedures. But at Bandag, we didn't become an industry leader by being like other companies. World-class retreads are in our blood. They have been for decades. Bandag retread manufacturing plants are ISO 9001:2000 certified and our dealers use BASys Manufacturing technology to track casings in real time and increase retreading effectiveness. Here's what the full retread process looks like. A trained Bandag technician performs a visual inspection on the tire to be retreaded. They inspect it inside and out, marking any visible damage. We don't stop at a visual inspection. The tire goes through an electrical inspection that can see "through the tire," into the sidewall and crown areas. The tire casing goes through a separate review, after which the casing is inflated and the surface is prepped for new tread. Damaged casing parts are expertly removed and repaired, and the casing is once again useful. A bonding layer and new tread are carefully applied to the casing surface. The tire is almost ready. It's covered in special elastic and prepped for curing. After curing, the new tread has permanently adhered to the tire. Last but not least, the tire goes through another round of inspections to ensure it meets our high standards.
Experience the Bandag Retread Difference in Cottondale
There's no bigger name in retreads, and there's no better product you'd want to be installed on your fleet than Bandag. Many fleets come to Bandag for service, advice, and tires. Some say Bandag retread tires are like an investment that keeps paying dividends. Quality commercial truck tires can be retreaded more than once. Bandag's most cost-conscious tire buyer, one of the largest modern fleets, retreads tires more than two times on average. Add an attentive tire management program with retreading and you can boost your investment by stretching the effective life of your fleet tires.
It's an investment you can feel good about in more ways than one. Retreading helps you save green by going green. While a brand new tire requires 22 gallons of oil to produce, a Bandag retread only uses seven gallons. Plus, Bandag's FuelTech fuel-efficient retreads lead the industry in terms of low rolling resistance (i.e., fuel economy) among retread and new tires. All of that can be a little hard to visualize or relate to, so consider this: a single 18-wheel truck that utilized retreaded tires instead of new tires would save enough energy to power thousands of homes. What if your home was one of them?
